01 — Overview

Our commitment to copyright

ManaRox ("we", "our", or "us") respects the intellectual property rights of creators, publishers, and copyright holders. We are committed to complying with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") and responding promptly to notices of alleged copyright infringement.

This page outlines how rights holders can submit a DMCA takedown notice, how users can file a counter-notice, and how we handle repeat infringers on our platform.

The short version: If you are a copyright holder and believe your work has been posted on ManaRox without authorisation, email us at dmca@manarox.com with the required information and we will act swiftly.

02 — What Is DMCA

Understanding the law

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) is a United States copyright law that provides safe harbour protections to online service providers, such as ManaRox, against liability for infringing content uploaded by users — provided that we respond promptly to valid takedown notices and meet certain other conditions.

Under the DMCA, copyright owners may submit a formal notice to us identifying content they believe infringes their copyright. Upon receipt of a valid notice, we are required to remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content.

Takedown Notice

Copyright holders submit a formal notice identifying infringing content, and we remove it promptly.

Counter-Notice

If content was removed in error, the uploader may file a counter-notice to restore it after a waiting period.

03 — File a Notice

How to submit a takedown

If you are a copyright owner (or an authorised agent acting on behalf of one) and you believe that content on ManaRox infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice to our designated agent by email.

04 — Required Information

What your notice must include

To be valid under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your DMCA takedown notice must contain all of the following elements. Incomplete notices will not be processed.

# Required Element Details
01 Identification of the work A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed, including the title, volume/chapter number, and publisher where applicable.
02 URL of infringing content The specific URL(s) on ManaRox where the allegedly infringing material is located. General URLs (e.g. the homepage) are not sufficient.
03 Your contact information Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address so we can contact you about your notice.
04 Good faith statement A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
05 Accuracy statement A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on behalf of the owner.
06 Signature A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorised to act on their behalf.

Important: Submitting a false or fraudulent DMCA notice may expose you to civil liability and damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), including costs and attorneys' fees. Please ensure your claim is legitimate before filing.

05 — Counter-Notice

Disputing a removal

If you believe content you uploaded to ManaRox was removed as a result of a mistaken or misidentified DMCA notice, you may submit a counter-notice to our designated agent at dmca@manarox.com.

Your counter-notice must include:

  • Your full legal name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Identification of the material that was removed and the URL where it appeared before removal.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  • A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or Tokyo, Japan if you reside outside the United States).
  • Your physical or electronic signature.
Counter-Notice Timeline

Upon receipt of a valid counter-notice, we will forward it to the original complainant. If the complainant does not notify us within 10–14 business days that they have filed an action seeking a court order to restrain the activity, we will restore the removed content at our discretion.

06 — Repeat Infringers

Our policy on repeat violations

In accordance with the DMCA and our commitment to protecting intellectual property, ManaRox maintains a strict repeat infringer policy. We will terminate the accounts of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright.

  • A first verified infringement will result in a warning and removal of the infringing content.
  • A second verified infringement will result in a temporary suspension and removal of all uploaded content pending review.
  • A third verified infringement will result in permanent account termination with no right of reinstatement.

We reserve the right to terminate an account immediately, without prior warning, in cases of egregious or willful infringement of copyright, including the uploading of entire manga volumes or wholesale reproduction of licensed content.

07 — False Claims

The risk of abuse

The DMCA is intended to protect legitimate copyright holders — not to be weaponised against content that is lawful, transformative, or otherwise authorised. We take abuse of the DMCA process seriously.

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing — or that material was removed by mistake — may be subject to civil liability, including damages, costs, and attorneys' fees incurred by the alleged infringer, the copyright owner, or ManaRox.

Examples of Legitimate Uses We Protect

Fan art, commentary, criticism, parody, reviews, and educational discussion of manga and anime may qualify as fair use or fair dealing and will not be removed solely on the basis of a DMCA notice without review. We evaluate all notices carefully before taking action.
